Administrator's outgoing message

August 16, 2017

Federation Council Administrator Mike Eden has overseen his last council meeting.

At his final council meeting before September 9 election day, Federation Council Administrator Mike Eden thanked “everyone for having me since May 12 last year”.

“My job was to ensure three things were done,” he said during yesterday’s August 15 meeting.

To ensure the merger of the businesses of the former Urana and Corowa Shires’ councils.

“I believe due to the good work of staff from the Urana and Corowa shires that business is now humming along nicely,” Mr Eden said.

“Federation Council would be in a better financial status than it was on May 12.

“I believe that is the case and the future councillors will be able to find that out.

“I promised I would do everything not to have the debacle when we had an uncontested election (last time).

“It’s wonderful to see we have ample candidates standing for election (42 candidates), so congratulations to all those who have put their hands up.

“I believe they’re showing they have a passion for the area.”

The Administrator said he looked forward to handing over the reins to the newly-elected council.

Federation Council’s General Manager Chris Gillard descried the role of administrator “as a bit like sitting up in a nest with no friends”.

But Mr Gillard said the many chats he has had with committee members revealed they were “largely impressed” with the size of the job and the way it was carried out.

“Congratulations to you on behalf of the staff and community,” the General Manager said.

“We are excited about the return of councillors.

“They did a good job before and will again, based on your good work.”
