Corowa RSL Indoor Bowls
Tuesday, August 1 had bowlers at a different venue, in the Federation Room, and the floor is somewhat different from our usual venue.
The change made for some interesting bowling, some could handle it while most struggled to adapt.
There were two, two game winners with rather high scores, the runner-up team with a very good 35 points was lead E. Jones, third G. Monish and their skip D. Banks, the winning team with an excellent 36 points was lead S. McGlone, third G. Sander and their skip J.W. Webber.
Thursday, August 3 saw six teams competing in the mixed pairs club championship and those attending witnessed some very fine bowling.
Mat1 had an even contest between P. Dodds and his playing partner G. Mills against D. Pleming and K. Pleming.
It was a very low scoring event due to the contestants being evenly matched, D. and K Pleming ended up winning this demanding contest by one point, well done.
On Mat2 there was an easier contest, the winners were I. Dowsey and W. Dowsey proving too strong and accomplished against a make shift team in P. Manning and B. Graves. P. Mannings partner could not take part due to illness so B. Graves stepped in to help out - thanks for that.
The other game on Mat3 was an even contest and could have gone either way, but due to some very good bowling when needed the pair of D. Banks and D. Sander proved too strong for E. Jones and S. Jones winning a very competitive and evenly balanced contest.
On Friday, August 4 a small but competitive number of members took part in bowling.
The bowling was a mixed bag, some very good and some most unusual.
Several members had a genuine excuse for their performance having taken part in Thursday’s championship event.
The runner-up team with a win and a loss and 21 points was lead D. Pleming, third S. Jones and their skip G. Sander. The winning team who performed well and deserved their victory was Lead S. Dudziak, second J>W> Webber, third I. Dowsey and their skip K. Cuhane.
Tuesday, August 8 was an eventful day at indoor bowls with all the bowlers performing as expected.
Some bowled above their normal bowling display which was good to see.
The runner-up team was lead D. Pleming, third K. Culhane and their skip G. Mills, the winning team with a draw and a win was lead S. Trembath, second D. Roberts, third D. Sander and their skip K. Pleming.
Wednesday, August 9 was the day for the club championships in the minor singles and the mixed pairs are reaching the closing stage of the elimination rounds.
In the mixed pairs, only two more games to determine the two finalist teams.
In the minor singles, also two more to go before the finalists are decided.
This week there was one minor singles elimination game and that was won by Peter Manning defeating Marg Pratt.
The other contest was a mixed pair elimination event between D. and K. Pleming against I. and W. Dowsey with I. and W. Dowsey being victorious, one more to go before the finals.
Thursday, August 10 saw two more of the championship elimination rounds, one was in the minor singles between Steve Jones and Peter Manning with the winner reaching the final of the minor singles and the winner after an interesting contest was Steve Jones.
The other contest was in the mixed pairs between S. McGlone and J.W. Webber against M. Pratt and P. Kerr, with S. McGlone and J.W. Webber having a comfortable victory to advance to the next round, congratulations to all the winners and commiserations to the runners-up.
