Power no good against Giants

August 16, 2017

CDHBU, after a month of good performances, put in a terrible display as they went down to RWW Giants by 69 points in their clash at Coreen on Saturday.

From the first bounce, it just didn’t look like the Power’s day after Giant’s goal after 18 seconds.

And it only got worse with the Giants finding the goals four times.

Mathew Walker was able to keep the Power in the contest with two goals as the Giants lead 4.3.27 to 2.1.13 at quarter time.

The Power came out firing to start the second quarter with goals to Matthew Ross and Jak Payne in the first five minutes to only trial by two points.

But that was the end of the Power run as the Giants kicked the next four goals to lead at half-time 8.5.53 to 4.3.27.

Andrew Ollington was doing a great job in defence, while Shannon Broadbent, Walker and Sean Hanrahan tried hard, but the Power were lacking other contributors as the Giants took the game away from the Power.

The Power could only manage five points for the quarter as the Giants led 11.6.72 to 4.8.32 at the last change.

The Giants dominated in the last quarter with the Power only managing a goal with the last kick of the game as they ran out winners 17.7.111 to 5.12.42.

Mal Macartney and Josh Lewis along with Jakob Hanrahan continued with their consistent effort across the ground.

The second half saw the Giants kick away as the power was unable to score but the boys never gave up with James Webb consistent effort in the ruck along with David Garcia, Doug Lavis and Paul Skate trying hard.

The back line once again never stopped with Mitch Clifton, Steve Talbot, Geoff Harvie always giving 100 percent.

The forward in Tom Hynes, Doug Lavis, Jamie Hicks also tried hard for the Power.

For the last home game for the year CDHBU came up against the Giants who have been pushing for a top four spot, so the Power knew it was going to be a tough game but they were up to it.

The boys started well with their pressure high and had the Giants on the back foot early.

Alex Lavis and Rory Batten had awesome games and both combined down back to create a great force.

In the last quarter, CDHBU ran out of legs and the Giants were able to kick a few goals, which sealed the game.
