Employees assemble outside the Uncle Toby’s factory as firefighters work to put out an oven fire.

About 250 workers were evacuated after a fire at the Uncle Toby’s factory in Wahgunyah on Monday morning.

A large industrial oven at the factory caught fire about 9.30am.

Firefighters from Rutherglen, Wahgunyah and Corowa brigades attended and took about 30 minutes to contain the blaze.

The blaze, which was not suspicious, was contained to the oven.

Meanwhile, the Corowa Fire Brigade attended the Corowa Racecourse on Thursday at 2.30pm after reports of a grass fire.

Captain Lindsay Bush said firefighters attended to find a small area of grass burning slowly.

“The caretaker was doing some burning and it was pretty much well under control,” he said.

However, Mr Bush said the fact that the grass was burning already at this time of year was an early indicator of things to come.
