The sun was out and it wasn’t too hot for those who took part in Sunday’s inaugural fun run for the Corowa-Rutherglen Junior Football Club.

The 10km event attracted 20 individual runners and 30 relay teams comprising between two and four runners.

The morning run was held at John Foord Oval and consisted of four laps that included the Corowa football ground and Corowa cricket ground.

Event organiser John Backhouse said the club had the “perfect” day for the event.

“The reaction from those who took part in the race was all positive and they are really looking forward to taking part again next year and bringing along some people with them,” he said.

“The fun run is a major fundraiser for the junior football club and it helped raise $800 which will go to the future development of the Corowa-Rutherglen junior footballers.”

Mr Backhouse said the race would become an annual fixture.

“It’s a great event for people who are looking to keep fit and healthy during the summer months, so we are hoping people stick the event in their calendar for next year,” he said.

The run was designed to be accessible to all fitness levels and consisted of two races, with participants entering as individuals or as a relay team of up to four runners.

The run added to the fantastic athletic events that are held in Corowa each year including the Corowa Swimming Club triathlon and Corowa Cricket Club fun run, both held in January, giving Corowa locals and visitors an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a local endurance sporting season.

Trophies were awarded to all winners and certificates went to placegetters.
