There were no first day blues for kindergarten students on their first official day of school at St Mary’s Corowa on Monday.
In fact, there were reports of children waking up much earlier than usual because they were excited for their big day.
Among the 14 new kindergarten students to start at St Mary’s is Pippa Thomas, 5, who was very excited about her new shoes.
“Look at my pretty shoes,” Pippa said.
On closer inspection the Free Press noticed Pippa’s black Mary Jane style shoes had black stitching portraying the face of a mouse covering the top of the toes.
Fellow classmate Tom Bonnitcha, 5, was more excited about his backpack that contained his lunch bag and some tasty treats.
The class spent part of the day making posters that contained important details like their name, hair and eye colour, as well as drawings of their family and their favourite animal.
Principal Glenn McMahon said there were no tears from children or any parents for that matter.
“The morning went very smoothly, I think the children were excited to be here and get started,” he said.
The kindergarten numbers are the same as last year’s intake and a total of 122 students are enrolled at the school.
