CDHBU aiming for finals return

February 28, 2018

CDHBU has signed North Albury brothers Liam and Callum Butler.

CDHBU has been through the wringer with talks about amalgamation plans being put on hold, but the club is choosing to think positive as it takes on this season with some key recruits.

Brothers Liam and Callum Butler will line-up for CDHBU after several years of experience at Ovens and Murray club North Albury, while Kade Rowe will return to CDBHU after a year at Tungamah.

Meanwhile, 2017 best and fairest winner Shannon Broadbent and Tim Cooper will both be returning in 2018.

CDHBU missed out on playing finals by one game last season but hope to return as finals contenders.

Football Manager Paul Rippingale said the club was “happy with where we’re sitting at the moment with numbers”.

“Some players have left and some have come back,” he said.

“The mix we have is experience and youth, which is fantastic.

“Our dual playing coaches, Michael Collins and Jeremy Stevenson, are more than happy about where we are with our numbers and training has been good with around the 30 to 35 most days, which at this time is excellent.

“These guys are really gelling together now under the guidance of our coaches and this is their second year.

“Our netball is also really strong at the moment, so from a club point of view we are very happy with where we are placed.”

Rippingale said competition within the Hume League was increasing.

“Last time was the first time we missed out on the finals for four or five years, but we are hoping to get back there this year,” he said.

“The club is very good, it’s very strong.”

CDHBU will play three practice games before the 2018 season starts the week following Easter.

The first practice game will be against Rennie on Friday, March 2 from 6pm at John Foord Oval.

The next game will be against Chiltern on March 16 at John Foord Oval from 6pm.

A gold coin donation from the above two games will go to the Royal Children’s Hospital in honour of the Playford and Hayes family.

The third practice game will be against Barnawartha on Saturday, March 24 at Barnawartha.

Following the game there will be a family get together at Rowers Park from 5pm onwards.
