Corowa’s Fishing for the Future competition, starting Friday night with live music and running all weekend, has some great prizes on offer.
The family-friendly event, which is in its second year, has just on $20,000 worth of prizes and giveaways for the weekend.
It is also a fish-friendly event which involves participants catching and then releasing their fish.
Corowa Computers Electronics and Outdoors created the competition in conjunction with Corowa Golf Club and Corowa Anglers Club.
The major prize is a fishing boat package.
There are lots of other prizes for categories including largest cod, largest Golden perch and many more.
Special guest is Steve (Starlo) Starling (fishing guru who has appeared on many fishing television shows).
The boundaries for fishing are the Murray River from Howlong Bridge to Bundalong Junction.
Children 15 and under get a sample bag and the children’s major prize is a $500 kayak.
All proceeds will go towards restocking the river with fingerlings purchased from NSW Fisheries.
The event has been put together by volunteers we have had a good amount of early bird entries.
Organisers say they are hopeful of creating another event for Corowa to help small businesses and keep our fishery healthy for the future.
