The final regatta for the 2017-18 season was the Victorian Masters State Championships held at Nagambie.
Corowa rowers Julie Underwood and Susie Scott represented the club at the 2 day regatta.
Day 1 featured the double scull with the Corowa crew up against a quality field from some of Victoria’s biggest clubs.
The early leaders, the composite crew from Melbourne and Essendon were quickest out of the start before the Corowa crew settled and pushed into second place.
Some steering issues hampered the Corowa crew as they restored their position in the race to move clear claiming a much deserved Silver medal.
Day 2- Julie’s first race was the single scull with a field of 8 scullers lining up.
The favourite former Canadian World Champion representing Melbourne University took the lead as the race saw Julie move into 3rd place.
With the early leader showing her class Julie settled and in a well rowed race won the bronze medal. The final race was the quad scull with Julie teaming up with 2 scullers from South Melbourne and a sculler from Ballarat.
The crew were not straight at the start as the quad quickly made up ground against the Latrobe Uni quad.
As the crew settled they made their move to push alongside the Uni quad.
The Uni quad were unable to keep up with the composite crew as they moved clear and take the gold medal.
The regatta was a great way to complete another successful season as the club now prepares for winters pre-season training.
The club welcomes new members to join our rowers in our off season strength and fitness building training, if you would like to find out more please call in to the shed from 4.30pm Monday to Thursday or 9am Sunday mornings.
