Asked by author Scot Gardner to begin a recollection on childhood with the line, “I remember when…”, Rutherglen High School students provided vivid tales of their memories and then ‘showed’ their listener the story through detailed imagery of the recollection.
After listening to Scot weave a story about a grass seed, develop that story into an amusing, detailed and engaging tale involving family and friends - and his own ineptitude in dealing with his medical condition - the audience was more than ready to share and then to write.
Scot Gardner is a renowned young adult real fiction writer whose novels engage and move his readers. Titles such as ‘White Ute Dreaming’, ‘Sparrow’, ‘The Dead I Know’ and ‘The Way We Roll’ deal with universal issues and capture the voice of adolescents on their respective journeys. ‘Changing Gear’ is the latest novel due for release and Rutherglen High School has it on order for its library.
The school’s Master Class students will write an article for the school’s next newsletter.
