Council’s Round 2 funding to rescue

May 16, 2018

Community organisations throughout Federation Council area which are experiencing financial difficulties completing their Round 2 Stronger Communities Minor Grants under $50,000 projects, are to receive additional financial assistance.
“It was to be expected that some minor unexpected financial and delivery challenges could present as works on the projects progressed, given most are community-based projects involving volunteers, and council has been diligent in keeping a small reserve for such occurrences,” council’s Interim General Manager Adrian Butler said.
Total grant allocations from the $1 million minor grants reached $888,680 leaving an unallocated fund balance of $111,320.
Councillors unanimously agreed, at yesterday’s May meeting, that the seven community organisations which sought additional funding, would receive a total of $66,247. Those further advances are for:
Morundah Bush Entertainment Committee - Paradise Palladium Theatre $25,000
Urana Progress Association - Urana Adventure and Skate Park $16,525
Corowa Tennis Club - fence installation $15,290
Howlong Cricket Club - turn roller replacement $4,207
Rand Sports Ground Committee -Rand community playground $4,133
Mulwala Football Netball Club - solar power generation $980
Corowa District Historical Society - security upgrade $111.
Overall, for Round 1 (major projects) and Round 2, an unallocated fund balance of $117,230 remains after the foregoing projects receive additional funding, and because of a withdrawn project and underspends to be returned to the unallocated fund.
If not already, the 13 Round 2 projects are due for completion by May 31, 2018.
Community groups, clubs and organisations can apply funding of up to $3,000 through the Community Grants Program, up to Monday, May 2018. Round 2 of the program opened on April 30. A total of $27,630 remains available after Round 1 funding.
