The ‘Enchanted Hut’ project for Memorial Park Howlong will be given a $5,000 boost from Federation Council via the NSW Government Stronger Communities Program.
The existing rotunda will be redeveloped and integrated with the new play equipment to create an inclusive play space for children.
“An artist will be engaged to create an original artwork on the rotunda that considers and blends with the natural environment yet engages in imaginative play and makes children feel like they are in an ‘enchanted hut’,” Federation Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services Kristy Kay said at council’s April meeting.
“Depending on the final surrounding landscaping design, it is expected an additional $2,000 will be required from council’s general fund.”
Council completed the new playground last November and has received positive feedback from the community according to Ms Kay.
And that positive feedback will increase further when Federation Council and Howlong Opportunity Shop join forces to co-fund a shade sail over the playground. It will be installed for next summer.
“This will be particularly important given the Enchanted Hut project and the expected increase in visitation to Memorial Park,” Ms Kay said.
“An initial quote of $15,000 has been obtained for the shade sail and Howlong Opportunity Shop has pledged a contribution of $7,500 towards the project.
“Council is extremely grateful for this contribution and recognises the important role that Howlong Opportunity shop plays within the community.”
