Federation Council has agreed to sell two blocks of land in Oaklands, to free up land to allow development and inject funds for council to fund strategic community and council priorities.

At its May meeting, council unanimously endorsed a recommendation from its director finance and organisation development, Kim Parker, to approve of the sale of 48 Coreen Street and 77 Milthorpe Street for $14,500 and $12,500 respectively, less the agent’s commission.

“All consultation was carried out by the Urana Shire Council regarding the sale of various allotments,” he said.

Council also unanimously agreed to proceed with the purchase of other land in Milthorpe Street from the Oaklands & District Lions Club, for $3,000 plus all disbursements.

A development application will be prepared by council  to demolish/remove the disused RSL building from this site and consolidate all allotments for the Oaklands RV Park. The application will be publicly exhibited for determination of the application.

“The Oaklands community has long had as a priority, including in council’s Integrated Plans, a caravan park to cater for seasonal workers and tourists,” council’s Interim General Manager Adrian Butler said.

In moving the motion which was seconded by Cr Shaun Whitechurch, Cr Paul Miegel said: “It makes common sense and gives the community confidence going forward.”
