Dunkley Panels is vying for the title of Best Body Repairer and is competing against numerous other elite businesses that have made the final cut for the Industry Awards.
Joel Dunkley, who owns the panel beating and towing business after taking over from his father six years ago, said that bringing home the title would mean receiving more work through insurance companies, which he hopes will result in assisting more local customers who currently take their vehicles unnecessary distances to get repaired.
“A lot of insurance work is generally dictated by where the companies send it to, so often people in Corowa have to drive 70km’s to Albury or Wodonga to get their car fixed.
“Ultimately the more boxes we can check the better it is for the local community because they have somewhere local they can send their car too,” Mr Dunkley told the Free Press.
A record number of applications were received for the awards and the submissions were then assessed based on business management, workplace practices, customer service, marketing and communication.
Mr Dunkley believes that this reflects the high standards that are implemented in the workshop at Dunkleys Panels where he ensures the team is up to date with industry advancements.
“Despite being small teams we’re always keeping up with training and technology to ensure that our customers are highly satisfied and are getting the best service possible.
“I think we show great work by getting vehicles out the door looking better than when they come in which builds a good rapport with our customers.”
The annual VACC Industry Awards program was instituted by the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce, the peak body for the state’s automotive industry, to recognise and promote businesses who reach high and sustain business excellence.
Awards in 36 categories are being contested this year and include everything from mechanical and body repairs to farm machinery, aftermarket and retail business operations.
The VACC Industry Awards category winners will be announced at a black tie gala evening, featuring MC Larry Emdur and a string of top-notch entertainers on Saturday June 22 at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne.
