Corowa Golf Club was very much part of Local Federal MP Sussan Ley’s first visit across her Farrer Electorate last week since the part-relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions in NSW.

The Member for Farrer visited the golf club last Friday after announcing last month the big, $982,602 Federal Government grant for replacement of the club’s watering systems and installation of a new course-wide irrigation system.
“I know how much the club was depending on this funding to help secure its longer term future so I am delighted we were able to supply the full amount,” Ms Ley told The Free Press.
“Water is vital for any golf club but it is also imperative it’s used as efficiently as possible, with this money set to construct a new automatic pumping station, saving club management about a quarter off their regular water bill and some 15 per cent off electricity.”
The money for Corowa was part of $8 million being spent across the Farrer electorate through the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and comes on the back of a $40,000 election commitment by Ms Ley for a new covered shade-sail area between the clubhouse and the pro-shop.
Work on this has already started and will be completed in coming weeks, both investments helping position Corowa Golf Club as one of the go-to courses on the Murray.
Club General Manager Daniel Peacock welcomed the visit by Ms Ley and thanked her in person for “the absolute game-changer” for the club which has battled financially.
While in town Ms Ley also visited Corowa Pre-School, TAFE and Men’s Shed.
