ANOTHER one bites the dust.
Wistaria Cafe has closed its doors after 17 years after negotiations with the Campaspe Shire could not reach a lease agreement.
And tenant Eric Grumont had simply had enough.
‘‘We have just had a gutful,’’ he told the Riv.
‘‘The port is an absolute debacle.
"If the port is the jewel in the crown, someone must have pinched all the jewels.’’
Campaspe Shire mayor Adrian Weston said in the past few months council staff had communicated with Wistaria and affirmed the offer to extend the lease to December 31 next year.
‘‘While it is disappointing the owner of the Wistaria has decided to close the business and not take up council’s offer to extend the lease for another 15 months, we respect their business decision," he said.
‘‘The newly-adopted port precinct plan outlines an exciting vision for the precinct and we look forward to now implementing the key strategies and actions in partnership with traders, staff and the broader community.”
