Sights, sounds, hounds

By Vanessa Wiltshire

WHO can’t help but fall in love with a pair of glittering eyes that invite a tummy rub and a scratch?

Dogs have a funny habit of bringing people together. And they were doing just that last Friday at Barrack Reserve.

The Heathcote Night Market was finally back in action after weather-forced cancellations in late December and January.

Locals and passers by enjoyed a tipple from Silver Spoon Estate, She Oak Hill and Palling Bros, plus a variety of special interest and food stalls.

Notably, the churros stand was particularly well patronised.

But the true drawcards of the evening had nothing to do with food, drink or music at all.

Four legged friends, Zoe, Nina, Laura, Banjo and Whisper joined the crowd to enjoy Mariah McCarthy’s ambient tunes, as they lapped up the golden sunlight and occasional stray titbits.

As people caught up on the latest news, puppy Banjo jumped at the hands of strangers. Basically, he wanted as much attention as he could get.

Laura, a trainee Seeing Eye Dog, was on her best behaviour with her owner, Cheryl Ward. Though you could tell all she wanted was to let her fur down for a fun Friday night.

Nina, Zoe and Whisper enjoyed the extra attention dished out by our journalist, Vanessa Wiltshire.

All in all, a paw-fect night!
