The family owned winery received a gold medal for their 2013 Botrytis Muscadelle – a luscious dessert wine, with a silver medal also being awarded to their 2016 Durif at the Interwine Competition held early this month in Guangzhou China.
Owner Damien Cofield was ecstatic with how his wines performed at the competition and is confident that having a gold medal attached to the Cofield name will help to expand the brand.
“We started looking at export opportunities in China last year, and only entered the show at the urging of our export partner. We have come away with two medals from two entries so needless to say we’re happy we listened to him.
“This is amazing for Cofield Wines in terms of us being able to break more into the international market,” he told the Free Press.
Interwine China is the largest and oldest wine and spirits festival in China. The bi annual three day show attracts exhibitors from 52 countries and more than 50,000 professional visitors and group buyers, which gives wineries, importers and distributors an excellent platform to showcase their wines.
“We have shipped our first container of wine into China earlier this year, and we expect the show success will help generate additional awareness of our brand,” Damien said.
Cofield Wines also exports moscato, shiraz and sparkling shiraz to China.
Cofield Wines senior winemaker Brendan Heath, a respected international wine show judge in his own right, was on hand in China to receive the award.
