All crews acquitted themselves very well in the lead up to the state titles.
First up was Brayden Harris in the male D single. Brayden had a great start to share in the early lead. However, he wasn’t able to maintain the pressure and trialed off in the last 500m.
The row was encouraging though for Brayden who, with some more consistent training, should be able to put himself amongst the action in the second half of the race in future events.
Next out were the Male D double sculls of Isaac McCluskey and Nicholas McMahon and Jayden McCluskey and Jake McCluskey. Both crews made it through to the A Final.
In the A Final, Jayden and Jake McCluskey showed the field a clean display of rowing, racing away to record a comfortable three-length win.
The other double of Isaac McCluskey and Nicholas McMahon were handy early on the race to finish in 5th spot.
Soon afterwards, the boys teamed up in the A final of the Male D quad Scull, with a full field of six crews in the final.
The raging favourite was the Shepparton crew who unfortunately broke an oar in the early stages of the race.
This opened up the race for all the other crews. The Rutherglen crew had a good start taking the early lead.
However, a solid row from the Corowa crew which hit the lead in the middle stages of the race saw them go on to record the win.
The young Rutherglen masters crew had an exciting race in the male D grade coxed four.
In a field of six crews, the Rutherglen crew come in a competitive third and were never far out of the picture.
The next regatta for Rutherglen Lake will be the State Titles at Nagambie in three weeks’ time.
