A full strength Albury outfit was determined to make a statement against the Roos at John Foord Oval on Saturday, after the controversial departure of their senior coach just four games into the season.
The Roos were still without a handful of key players which tested the club’s depth against the perennial grand finalists - Jordan Lavis the latest to miss out with injury.
From the first bounce, the Tigers ran the ball in waves from defence into attack setting up most of their goals from short range. After a scoreless first quarter for the Roos, Coach Marc Almond delivered a passionate plea to the players to lift their work rate. To the Roos credit, the team responded and was able to score multiple goals in each of the remaining three quarters. The likes of Shane Tregear, Joe Hansen, Jack Schilg, Tyler Spencer and Gus Lingham put together good part games but it was Andrew Pretto and Jimmy O’Connell that had solid four quarter performances. James Tanner made and impressive debut joining his identical twin brother Matt for the first time at senior level.
Both drew praise from the coaching staff and received awards for their on-field performances.
Cal Spencer was also elevated from the Thirds for his first senior game of the year and looks to have a promising career in the O&M.
The Roos take on the improving Saints at Myrtleford this coming Saturday before the interleague bye the following week.
Congratulations to Tyler Spencer on his selection in the O&M squad and we hope he takes to the field representing our club.

Albury 18.15.123
The Albury club has enormous depth in their senior list compared with Corowa Rutherglen, but each week this season the club has fielded a full team without relying on occasional players or having to draw on Thirds players to double up on game day. It’s a credit to this group who give their all, week after week, and are highly respected around the club. Cameron Dunne played his first game for the Roos after an injury interrupted start to the season. His ability to read the game and clean ball use will see him elevated to senior ranks very shortly. Beau Schilg and Leigh Schulz will also have caught the eye of selectors with their solid performances. Harley Ralph and Zac Nicholls also performed well while young tall Sam Severin did a great job in the ruck. Harley’s clever check side goal from the boundary brought a smile to the faces of onlookers. Nice one Harley.
Goals: H. Ralph, S. Lavis
Awards: C. Dunne, B. Schilg, S. Severin, P. Whyte, Z. Nichols, L. Schulz

According to statistics, the Roos had one less inside fifty than the Tigers, but with two key play-makers in Darcy Melksham and Cal Spencer playing seniors, went unrewarded on the scoreboard.
The Roos held their own in most facets of play but the tall Albury forwards were the catalyst for the difference on the scoreboard.
Bailey Pirnag’s attack on the footy combined with his second and third efforts continue to inspire his team mates in what has been a great season to date for this fine young player.
Preston Pedron, Jordan Eyers, Braden Mclean and Mak Lavis also epitomize consistency and didn’t disappoint once again.
Jacob Beveridge had another solid performance and was a worthy recipient of the Coach’s Award.
Goals: R. Eyers
Awards: J. Eyers, B. Pirnag, P. Pedron, R. Eyers, M. Lavis
Coach’s Award: J. Beveridge
