Julie’s first medal came in the D class single scull where she took on the current Victorian representative from Melbourne University. In a close battle Julie led all the way to take home the gold by over a boat length.
Teaming up in the D class double scull with the sculler from Ballarat City saw a close race as the combination held on for the bronze medal.
Day two saw the D class quad scull with a combination from Nagambie, Melbourne and Julie have their first race together. The strong combination took the lead from the start and led all the way to win the gold medal.
One of the feature events was the C class single with Julie up against a quality field of Australian and Victorian representatives. She kept pace against her younger class opposition as she moved clear with the in-form Melbourne sculler. As the two scullers raced to the line Julie finished with her best race in the single scull to claim the silver medal.
The final race was the C class quad scull with the composite crew featuring South Melbourne, Ballarat City and Julie lining up in the five crew final. The crew took the lead and in a powerful display proved too good to claim the gold medal.
Julie has been rewarded for her hard work at training by improving her technique and fitness during the season. Winning the clubs most successful female rower and winning at regattas over multiple distances is a reward for her hard work.
As the river levels decline over winter months, the club will focus on the preseason in the gym during the week and crew boat rowing Sunday mornings.
