James competed in the ISSF Trap Mixed Teams event, shooting with Laetisha Scanlan.
The pair shot a fantastic combined score of 144/150 in the qualifying rounds during the day and qualified equal second to make it into the medal matches.
“We won the shoot-off to make it into the gold medal match,” James said.
“Laetisha and I shot 44/50 in the final which tied us with the Russian team so it came down to a shoot-off to determine the World Champion team.
“After two targets the Russian Team had missed a target so it came down to my shot to count for the win and after hitting it we came away world champions.”
In his new forte of the individual ISSF men’s trap event James finished on a score of 116/125 in 35th place for the championships.
James also said he enjoyed the trip spending two weeks in total in Italy with a week of training prior to the event.
“The weather there was great being in the middle of summer the temperature was mid-30s,” James said.
“I will prepare for the next competition which is in Italy in late August which is the Italian Green Cup held at Todi.
“This event is just prior to the European Championships and will have around 350 shooters attending to compete.
“The last major event for me is the ISSF World Cup Final which will be held in Al Ain, UAE in October which is the top athletes from the year will get invited to by the ISSF.”
