The depleted Roos outfit were unable to match it with the Myrtleford Saints on Saturday who have proven to be the big improvers of the competition this season.

It was the tall timber of the Saints strong ruck combination and centre-to-centre line that controlled the game from the outset.
Unless a team has elite foot and hand skills at ground level throughout, which the Roos need to improve on, then capitalizing on opportunities becomes highly unlikely.
Into the side came Cody Kuschert, Pete Whyte and James Tanner after strong performances in the reserves.
Cameron Dunn was unavailable for selection while Alex Wallis and Tim Brook were both ruled out due to suspension.
Wallis received a one-week sanction while Brook received three and won’t return until the club’s next home game against Wodonga.
This is yet another bitter blow to the team that has been cruelled by more than their fair share of injuries all season.
Matt Wilson and Jordan Lavis have both suffered a recurrence of their injuries and are only a slim chance to return along with Cody Parker and Tyler Spencer who have been ruled out for the year.
The Roos were further hampered when a head clash between team mates Rohan Davies and Leigh Schulz resulted in Schulz being left on the sidelines from the second quarter onwards.
Despite all of the above the Roos did have patches of good fast flowing footy that resulted in scoring opportunities, especially when Hayden Filliponi and Rohan Davies capped of good team play with majors to their name.
The Roos had few standout players but Tyson Logie, Shane Tregear, Jimmy O’Connell, Rohan Davies and Jack Schilg put in solid performances while James and Matt Tanner worked tirelessly for the four quarters.
The Saints are an evenly balanced and skillful outfit and it would be refreshing for the competition to see them do well in the finals.

It was a pretty even contest early in the game however the Roos fluffed a couple of easy shots to go unrewarded on the scoreboard and a shot that hit the post didn’t help.
As the time wore on, the Saints stamped their authority on the game against the Roos side that had a number of regulars missing from their lineup.
Max Taylor impressed in his first game for the Roos after transferring from Wang Maggies in the pre-season.
Besides being a talented young player he also has the trademarks of being a valued club person.
While recovering from a shoulder reconstruction, Max has been doing the running duties for the seniors.
Braden Robins was a real spark across half forward while Harley Ralph, Sam Haigh and Blake Spencer were busy in the midfield.
John Conroy and Luke Kuschert did the mopping up effectively in defence.
In a lighter moment, one of the Saint’s players had his shorts completely ripped off which raised bronx cheers from onlookers.
After already goal umpiring for the thirds, Benny Black was in fine form with the flags and may well have been auditioning for an AFL career.
He had all the classic moves that even David Roden would have been proud of.

The Roos took to the field with just sixteen players and up against an opposition that six players on the interchange bench.
So it was always going to be a tough gig for the boys who try their best against the odds week after week.
They will look back on this season and think what could have been after getting off to a great start with a healthy list.
The game started as a fast and open affair and the Roos had several snaps at close range only to have them smothered by desperate Saints defenders while the Saints put two shots through by quarter time. It was a similar tale in the second with a five goal to one in favour of the Saints.
The Roos first goal coming from the boot of Will Seymour.
Josh Bartlett opened the scoring in the second half but, with tiring bodies, there was little for the Roos to celebrate from there on.

Roos News
This week’s Hub Automotive Volunteer Awards go to Karen Bradtke and Georgie Bruce.
Karen has taken on the responsibility of Canteen Coordinator this year and has been doing a sterling job. Georgie did a great job last week in organising all the catering bits and pieces that made the Golden Roo Dinner such a successful evening.
Thankyou to both these wonderful contributors to the club.
Speaking of the Golden Roo Dinner, Campbell Brown was a huge hit with the audience.
The All Australian and premiership Hawthorn player and media personality, relived his most memorable moments in footy and life’s experiences.
He certainly raised a few eyebrows at times about his antics, but mostly raucous laughter on the funnier side of things.
In other news, the Kanga Cash Draw pulled a sellout crowd with three lucky punters sharing in $7,000 worth of cash prizes.
Congratulations to Alex Wallis in taking out first prize, second went to Sam Dempster and third to Bec O’Connell.
It finished off a great weekend for Bec who celebrated her 150th netball game for the club on Saturday.
The Golden Roo member’s draw has jackpotted to $400 with the final draw of the season to be held following the Roos final home game against the Wodonga Bulldogs on Saturday 17 August.
Golden Roo members need to be in attendance to claim the prize.
