Cobram Community Cinema ready by spring

By Madi Chwasta

Stage one of Cobram Community Cinema is now expected to be finished by July, with hopes the project will be ready for cinemagoers by spring.

Cobram Community Cinema Inc secretary Rob Morey said completion of stage one, which included the two theatres, the ticketing area, the toilets and the kitchen, was about a month behind schedule.

He said this stage would be finished in July, while stage two, which would see completion of the entrance and the paving, was expected to be completed by August or September.

He thanked the community for its support for the not-for-profit cinema, from which all money made after running costs will go towards youth projects in Cobram.

Construction: The Cobram Community Cinema's interior is expected to be finished in July, with ambitions for the project to be complete by September.

“The community need to be thanked for the belief they've put in young people,” he said.

However, Mr Morey said they still needed to raise more money to complete the project.

“We're still about $76 000 short for stage two,” he said.

“I am confident (we will raise the money), but we still have to encourage people to get involved.”

The cinema is a collaboration between between Cobram Youth Group and Cobram Masonic Lodge.
