Australian first for Cobram

By Morgan Dyer

An Australian first happened in Cobram today when the first ever K-hub store opened.

The store, which is now open in Cobram's former Target building, is a smaller version of a regular Kmart store.

K mart Australia retail director John Gualtieri said his team was on a mission to provide easy access to everyday items, at the lowest possible price.

“It’s the K mart experience, a little closer to home,” Mr Gualtieri said.

“We’ve taken our most popular K mart products across kids, home and clothing, and brought them to life in a new way.

“A collection inspired for a smaller format store, with bigger convenience in mind.”

The store has only had a quick facelift, but Mr Gualtieri wanted to assure residents the store would change its look over time.

“We’ve given the store a light touch makeover for now, so that we’re not inconveniencing you with a long store closure,” Mr Gualtieri said.

“But we want you to know that we have big plans to evolve the look and feel of this store over time.”

Residents will be welcomed to the store by familiar faces after the business was able to retain and retrain nine workers from the former Target store.

K-hub customers will have the ability to shop K mart's and Target’s full product range online, then visit in-store to collect their items with no additional shipping cost.

People will also be able to get their items delivered straight to their door, so they can conveniently shop from the comfort of their own home.

The team is expecting a bit of interest opening weekend and has implemented procedures to help with this, including ensuring physical distancing of at least 1.5 m is maintained.

The store is open Monday to Wednesday from 9 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 7 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.
