Held from August 2 to 6 as part of a 12-day darts extravaganza in Echuca-Moama, with the Pacific Masters Tournament hitting Rich River Golf Club from August 7 to 13, fans will be treated to the absolute best the sport has to offer.
Hosting the event for the first time since 2019 due to COVID-19, Murray River Council economic, tourism and community development officer Rachel Cresp said the local community could not wait to welcome back the tournament.
“The inaugural event in August 2019 was a great success, however due to COVID-19 related restrictions both the 2020 and 2021 tournaments were postponed,” she said.
Rachel said the tournament had been awarded World Darts Federation (WDF) ‘Platinum’ status, meaning it was open to international players.
“We are excited to invite back international players, with players coming from the UK, Japan and New Zealand expected to return to the tournament.
“The Australian Darts Open Tournament is the only tournament of its kind in Australia and has significant national and international visitor appeal.“
Rachel said an event like this would do wonders in helping the region’s visitor economy bounce back.
“Events such as these are catalyst to aiding economic recovery for our region.
“We anticipate over 500 players will enter the tournament, with players coming from all states and territories to compete.”
As for what the fans can expect from the event, Rachel said it would be a fantastic spectacle at Moama Bowling Club.
“We strive to offer players, spectators and viewers a world-class tournament that is open to all.
“During the tournament the atmosphere at the Moama Bowling Club is electric.
“Spectators are encouraged to come along, sing and have a great time.”
