Recruiting drive to push Heathcote forward

By Brayden May

HEATHCOTE is primed for a move up the Heathcote District football League ladder in 2020 after big improvements this season, according to senior coach Wayne Primmer.

The Saints will head into next year with Primmer in charge for a second straight year after he and the club agreed to keep their partnership going.

But he knows improvement is going to come from both within and outside the four walls of the club.

"We're going to target a few guys to complement what we've already got," Primmer said.

"There is no doubting our group has improved and we're hoping there is more to come from guys at the club.

"But if we can add some experienced heads it will go a long way to helping guide our younger players."

And Primmer has already identified the positions on the ground he wants to strengthen.

"A key position at either end of the ground is critical," he said.

"If you can have two guys as focal points it can help set up your entire team. We're currently on the lookout and hopefully we get it as solved as possible.

"Our midfield probably needs a little bit more depth as well. We probably need some more class to help us create opportunities forward of centre."

With close to all of the 2019 playing group re-signed, Primmer will have plenty of familiar faces to work with.

But arguably the most important signing will be Codie Price who enjoyed a standout first year for the club.

"We couldn't have asked for much more from Codie," Primmer said.

"He has an excellent report with the playing group and has continued to set the example.

"Codie has been an excellent role model for the club and we're pleased that he has decided to hang around next year.

"Hopefully he can help us on that journey up the ladder."
