Police have shot a gunman in the shoulder after he fired at officers in Tasmania's northwest.

Officers were called to a property in Shorewell Park, near Burnie, about 8:30am on Sunday after reports an armed man was acting aggressively, making threats and firing a weapon.
Police tried to negotiate with the man, urging him to disarm himself.
The man fired at police before being shot in the shoulder by officers.
He was taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Tasmania Police Professional Standards Unit has been advised and will investigate the incident.Â
