The NSW Government’s Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund, established under the Restart NSW fund, in association with CMCA and Federation Council has installed a “Dump-Ezy” dump point unit and signage and received up to $3,750 towards installation costs.
CMCA CEO Richard Barwick said that the wastewater dump point is a crucial piece of infrastructure for recreational vehicle (RV) tourists passing through Oaklands.
“The best way to get RV travellers to visit Oaklands, stay and spend money with local businesses is to offer the essential services they need” Mr Barwick said.
“I know CMCA members appreciate being made welcome and our members always support those communities that support them”.
CMCA is working with local councils across NSW to install dump point facilities and ensure RV travellers can dispose of their waste in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.
Member for Albury Justin Clancy said the NSW Government was proud to support a project that would help increase tourism visitation to regional locations and boost local businesses.
“That’s exactly why the Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund was established,” Mr Clancy said.
“Tourism is a growing industry in regional NSW and we want to ensure our regional communities have the infrastructure in place to attract visitors to their towns.”
The RV tourism market is one of the fastest growing in Australia and generates over $5.4 billion per annum in overnight expenditure, which Oaklands will seek to capitalise on.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Patrick Bourke said the new waste water dump point adds to the facilities that are available at the newly developed Oaklands RV Park, which enables five RV’s to park overnight right in the main street of Oaklands.
“Catering for RV enthusiasts is a great way to encourage visitors to stay a while and inject some money into the local economy,” he told The Free Press.
“Working together with the community and the hard working volunteers led by the Oaklands Town Improvement Committee, allowed the RV Park project to be made possible after many years as a priority.
“I know the Town Improvement Committee have further plans for the RV Park including a gazebo and improving access to other services, for the visitors to stop and spend some money in the local businesses, and take in the other attractions in and around Oaklands.”
The facility at Gunambil Street, Oaklands is available to all RV travellers free of charge.
