to be congratulated by Mayor Pat Bourke, and fellow Councillors for their involvement in the NSW Local Government Week competition and enjoyed a barbeque lunch.
Mayor Bourke said this year’s theme ‘Your Council’ had three categories from being a ‘Tour guide for the day’, ‘Spaces in my community’, ‘On the Town - A community adventure’ and provided a great opportunity for students to explore all the ways that Council is part of our community.
“Local Government Week 2019 is the perfect opportunity to highlight the important services that Council’s provide to their communities,” Mayor Bourke said.
“Local government is at the heart of our communities, providing the services and infrastructure that help make a neighbourhood a home to residents and ratepayers.
“Council is about a lot more than the three Rs: Roads, Rates and Rubbish and this year’s theme really captured the breadth of services, roles, and duties that local council’s perform.
“As the third tier of government in Australia, local government is the one that has most direct contact with ratepayers and residents, and the one that provides the vital services that keep our communities, villages, and towns, thriving,” he said.
Council conducted a competition for all primary and preschool students in the Federation Council area and received some very creative entries and will be utilising some of the winning entries in Tourism initiatives for future use.
Federation Council said they would like to thank the participating schools: Mobile Preschool Urana, Urana Public School, Oakland’s Central School and St Francis Xavier’s Primary Urana plus the Urana Bowls Club and all the helpful volunteers.
