“I commend council for getting the building blocks two-thirds of our way through the first elected Federation Council (2017),” he said at council’s latest monthly meeting on September 17.
“But there’s a lot of work still to be done to see the start of the fruits of our labour delivered in that time frame.
“I hope these projects, within 12 months, will be up and running.”
Cr Miegel’s comments followed a report by council’s General Manager Adrian Butler as to the progress of projects for which funding was given by the NSW Government upon the merger of the Corowa and Urana Shires in 2016.
Corowa’s Skate Park and Bangerang Park, Oaklands RV Park, Rand Sports Ground Upgrade, and Lonsdale Reserve Upgrade and Kyffins Reserve projects at Mulwala are among projects outstanding on Cr Miegel’s mind.
Cr Bronwyn Thomas again raised the subject of no work at this stage in respect of the Kyffins Reserve Mulwala upgrade which is to include walking tracks and fencing.
“This project related to a 2013 draft document of (former) Corowa Shire Council which should be turned into a working document,” she told council.
Fifteen major projects were identified and allocated to the $9 million fund from the State Government following the merger.
“A new project, Lonsdale Reserve Bay 13, was taken up in 2018 and was funded form interest earned form investment funds,” Mr Butler said.
“Many of the Federation Council major projects required community consultation, and further scoping and design to ensure the best value outcomes for the community.
“The availability of suitably qualified contractors to deliver the required works is also an issue for council.”
