Those lucky enough to know Jimmy will appreciate the loss of a man who helped so many and had a heart of gold.
Even those who didn’t know Jimmy will be able to marvel at the local legend’s life that was.
Jimmy and his wife Phyllis spent most of their lives living in Wahgunyah, both devoting their time to helping others. At one point in time Jimmy had over 25 jobs, all of them helping others.
From local milk bar owner to general store keeper, school bus driver, school of arts caretaker, local fireman, photographer, caravan park overseer, school handyman, tourism officer, cake maker, watch and camera repairman, handy man, casual barber, kitchen appliance repairer, dry cleaning service operator, engraver, community organiser, lawn mower repairman, practical joker and unofficial town mayor – Jim wore many hats in the community.
For all his wonderful work and volunteering Jimmy was awarded the Citizen of the Year in 1981, the award’s inaugural year.
Jim was the man the elderly would turn to for almost anything. Known affectionately as Mr Fix-it, the Wag of Wahgunyah, and the unofficial mayor of Wahgunyah, Jim lived his life to the fullest and every day of his 96 years was spent to the minute enriching the lives of everyone around him.
Jim will be remembered on Monday, November 4 at the Rutherglen Catholic Church.
All are welcome to come and send off one of the regions true legends.
Times and details will be provided shortly.
