The festival weekend has a long tradition of entertaining the residents of Corowa and the many visitors that frequent our region during the summer holidays. The Rotary Club has once again provided various activities, which would suit the needs of varying ages.
The weekend starts on Friday 24th January, with the Tim Fischer Oration. This is the fourth year the dinner has been held at the Oddfellows Hall and this year’s speaker is the former independent member for Indi, Cathy McGowan. It is a great night with food, wine and an interesting talk from the guest speaker. (Tickets will be available from Marshall Batteries)
Saturday the 25th January sees the Annual Corowa Rotary B&S Ball, held at the Cougar’s league grounds. This event has been well attended each year bringing visitors and locals together to celebrate Australia Day. The main attraction this year will be US international country singer, Sam Riddle. The theme is Australia Day and all attendees wear Aussie themed clothes. (Tickets available from Marshall Batteries and online)
Saturday night also sees the annual Australia Day Fireworks to be held at RSL Park at 9:30 pm. This year before the fireworks there will be a Band Recital where several bands will be performing in the park from 7 pm. The bands will also be marching in the Federation Parade on the Sunday. The club is encouraging families and visitors come to the RSL Park and enjoy the entertainment before the excellent fireworks. There will be food stalls available and activities for the kids so bring a chair and come and enjoy the music and the fireworks!!
Sunday the 26th January on Australia Day, the Club’s annual Federation Markets will be in Bangerang Park from 8am with an Ecumenical Service commencing at 9am and the Federation Festival Parade, commencing at 10am. These markets are some of the biggest markets for the year with many stallholders, food and drink vendors, fresh produce and the fantastic APEX Club train. The long held Federation Parade will once again make its way down Sanger Street to Bangerang Park in the “Australia Day” theme. Rotary is encouraging schools, community groups and business to get involved by entering a float. Entries and enquiries about the parade can be made by contacting Club via their website or Facebook page by the end of December.
The club is hoping that this Federation Festival Weekend will be one of the biggest in years and are looking forward to seeing everyone there to celebrate Australia Day in style.
