The show is sold out with 11,000 people to attend.
It will be a huge production, including the largest stage, a 66-metre wide x 21-metre high, to go into the venue.
A total of 35 semi-trailers worth of staging and equipment includes 450square metres of LED screen.
The sound system is a state-of-the-art Clair CO12 system and will take four x 500KVA generators to power all the production during the show.
Seven caterers are on the road with the tour, to feed a touring production team of 75 people. Sixty local labourers will set up and pull down.
Beginning in Pennsylvania, USA in September 2018, Elton John’s current three-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road global tour has already been hailed as one of his most “energetic, dazzlingly original and joyful celebrations”.
Crowned by Billboard as the most successful performing male solo artist of all time, Sir Elton John is traversing Australia and New Zealand, in what is the legendary music icon’s most extensive tour of the region to date.
“I always love coming back to Australia,” Sir Elton John said. “Ever since my first visit in 1971 it has held a very special place in my heart.
“Playing live to other human beings is the greatest gift any artist could ever have. I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play for audiences across the globe.
“I plan to bring to my final tour the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades. It’s the most produced and fantastic show I’ve ever done. I want to go out with a bang.”The milestone itinerary comprises more than 300 shows across five continents, spanning three years, with stops in Europe, North America, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, and marks the last tour of its kind by the celebrated songwriter and iconic showman.Audiences will experience a rare glimpse into Elton’s life, and the deeply personal meaning behind some of his greatest hits, via mesmerising, never-before-seen images and videos displayed throughout the show from his incredible 50-year career.
Since his career began in 1969, Elton has performed a staggering 4000-plus shows in more than 80 countries. Sir Elton said that after the tour finishes he looks forward to “coming off the road and dedicating more time to raising my children”.
Joining Sir Elton will be brilliant young award winning singer/songwriter Tate Sheridan who will warm audiences at the outdoor concerts on Sir Elton’s epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road Australian Tour which began in Perth on November 30.
A unique storyteller, Tate Sheridan has always been a name to watch, capturing Sir Elton’s attention in 2015 when the then 23-year old Sheridan was asked to open select Australia and New Zealand dates on the artist’s national tour that December. Since then, Elton has taken keen interest in Sheridan’s music, playing his song ‘Fade to Black’ his Apple Music Beats 1 Radio Show to an audience of millions.
Sheridan joins Sir Elton on 22 of his 34 Australian dates, performing songs from his latest solo work, ‘Angel Man’ which captures the beautiful rustic tones of the old Americana, plus tunes from his impressive back catalogue. Sheridan will perform some of these appearances solo on piano, and on others as a three-piece, with piano, bass and drums.
“I’m thrilled to be opening for Sir Elton John once again, on his final Australia tour,” Tate said. “He was probably my biggest childhood hero and his music has been a huge inspiration. It all feels very surreal.”
Back to 72-year-old Sir Elton. Born in Middlesex, England, at just four-years-of-age he taught himself how to play the piano. Subsequently educated at the Royal Academy of Music in England, he has 38 gold records and 31 platinum and multi-platinum albums, and over 50 Top 40 hits, Sir Elton has sold more than 300 million records worldwide.
He holds the record for the biggest-selling single of all time, Candle in the Wind 1997, which sold more than 33 million copies and which he sang at Princess Diana’s funeral service.
Since going on sale in February this year, Australia and New Zealand have snapped up tickets to Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, with total sales exceeding half a million tickets to date.
It has been 48 years on from his first ever Australian show, which took place at Perth’s Subiaco Oval on October 17, 1971.
Sir Elton loves Australia. “Your audiences have always been very generous towards me and I know that this final tour will be the most memorable ever,” he said.
Sir Elton has been very generous too, both on and off the stage. Off stage, for example, on January 7, he donated $1 million to our bushfire relief fund. On stage, he’s delivered so many wonderful songs in spectacular fashion.
