This year council was eager to continue tradition and hosted celebrations online, during Volunteer Week 2020.
Federation Council Mayor Patrick Bourke said this year council was excited to introduce Community Champions: Changing Communities |Changing Lives initiative.
“This year council recognised not only our volunteers but individuals, neighbours and community groups who have shown compassion, kindness and a helping hand to people in their communities during times of need,” Mayor Bourke said.“We have showcased our Community Champions via council’s Corporate Facebook page as well as through Federation Council’s website.
“Many beautiful, encouraging and heart-warming stories were shared with us online and it was great to read the messages of encouragement towards our community champions. The role of volunteers in today’s modern society cannot be underestimated. They play a huge part in the running of our communities, both on a local and national level.”
Mayor Bourke said volunteering plays a critical role in empowering individuals, in fostering active citizenship and in building inclusive and resilient communities in which we can all flourish.
Council wishes to thank all community members who took the time to nominate their town’s community champion and of course thank each of the nominees.
