Hosted at the Corowa Golf Club, the Inner Wheel members enjoyed a hearty lunch as they celebrated their second changeover since forming the club in 2018.
Outgoing President Noreen Miller said it was an honour to be a part of such a wonderful organisation.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the club grow. We started in 2018 with 18 members and now we have 27 members,” Ms Miller told The Free Press.
“The friendship is so important, and we love doing different things in the community.”
Secretary Margaret Playford was full of praise for the inaugural president.
“Noreen has ensured that everyone has always been included and kept up to date. She has been so approachable and friendly to everyone,” Ms Playford said.
“Noreen knows our community so well and incorporates all aspects of the community. She is so focused on supporting the community and I know Nicky will continue it.”
Incoming President Nicky Ross expressed excitement as she accepted her new role.
“I’m honoured to be taking on this role,” she said.
“The commitment these women have for the community is fantastic. I love Corowa, the people and the community. Everyone is so pleasant.”
Ms Ross moved to Corowa from Melbourne just over 18 months ago and joined IWCCD shortly after.
“We had a holiday house here for 12 or 13 years and always wanted to live here. It’s just a beautiful location,” Ms Ross said.
Over the past two years, IWCCD has involved themselves in local projects such as reading programs at Corowa Primary School and holding fundraising events for and the Inner Wheel national project, Cord Blood Research. This year, Inner Wheel will also involve themselves with the Amaranth Foundation’s Food Bowl Program.
CEO and Founder of the Amaranth Foundation, Julianne Whyte was the guest speaker at the event.
“We are thrilled that this club has committed to being involved with our Food Bowl program,” Ms Whyte said.
A milestone was also celebrated as a beloved member, Diana Newnham marked 30 years with the Inner Wheel Club.
“I was part of the Shepparton Inner Wheel Club for 28 years. We shifted to Corowa four years ago and I joined Corowa Inner Wheel in 2018 when it was still very new,” Ms Newnham told The Free Press.
Ms Newnham has held various positions in her time with Inner Wheel. She served twice as president as well as social convenor for four years and historian for two years.
“The best part about being part of Inner Wheel is the friendship amongst the varying clubs and helping in the community. We support each other and belong to a wonderful worldwide organisation,” Ms Newnham said.
Ms Newnham remarked that it was a good decision to move to Corowa from Shepparton.
“It’s such a lovely place. The river and the people are just beautiful. A very friendly community. This is our favourite spot and we won’t ever leave,” she said.
