NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will visit Albury tomorrow to announce further details about the return of the 50km border zone.

Local Member for Albury Justin Clancy confirmed the premier’s visit where it is expected an announcement the new 50km border zone permits will be available to border residents this Friday, September 4.

Mr Clancy said the detail around ‘daily’ living was not completely clear but more information would be available as the week progresses.

“It will be up to the chief health officer to decide on what the daily living components will be,” Mr Clancy said.

It has been almost eight weeks since the borders were closed with the initial 50km border zone allowing residents within the zone to resume “normal daily living”.

Upon his visit to the region last week, NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the changes to permits would see a return of “normality” for border residents.

Mr Barilaro also said there would be “a couple of additional adjustments” to give more freedom to residents on both sides of the border.

The change will come weeks after local MPs and border mayors lobbied to the NSW government after tightened restrictions came into place late July.
