Each year the awards recognise excellence in student achievement, outstanding school initiatives and parents who have gone above and beyond for their school community in NSW.
Jacob received the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement, a prestigious award that recognises demonstrated high achievement in academic excellence, leadership and commitment to the school community.
Corowa High School principal, Dr Joanne Bellette commended Jacob on his achievement praising him for his outstanding academic excellence and his sporting and community contribution.
“Jacob is the fourteenth student to be awarded the Minister’s Award for Excellence in School Achievement at Corowa High School and one of only three students to receive the award across the Riverina,” Dr Bellette said.
“Jacob has continued to excel in his subjects including; Extension Mathematics, Business Studies, Chemistry and Advanced English.
“In 2019 Jacob was awarded the Victor Chang School Science Award for demonstrating the highest level of educational achievement, innovation, creativity and hard work.
“In addition to his academic achievements, Jacob is an outstanding sportsperson who has attained local and regional success in his chosen sport of hockey and has also represented Corowa High School in soccer and cricket.”
Over the past 18 months, Jacob has committed to coaching local soccer and hockey teams, captaining the U16 boy’s hockey team, playing division three men’s hockey. He has also joined the Hockey Club Committee as a young leader.
Jacob was also elected to the Student Representative Council and in March this year, he was recognised as Corowa ‘Lions Youth of the Year’ Public Speaking winner.
Dr Joanne Bellette said the entire school community was proud of Jacob’s recognition.
“He is truly deserving of this honour and a wonderful asset to our school and community,” Dr Bellette said.
Each year the awards are presented to students by the NSW Minister for Education at a ceremony in Sydney, however the event was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
