Figures for August and July represent a substantial increase compared to the same time in recent years.
Commenting on the “vast increase”, council’s director development and environment services Susan Appleyard said: “This is considered a very positive sign for the local economy and is providing a very good stimulus especially to local trades and flow on effects.”
Corowa recorded 10 of the 25 building permits, including new homes for Isabel Street and Sophia Close. Eleven permits including three new homes were for Mulwala.
The remaining eight permits for Corowa were: alterations and additions to dwelling, Wanstead Street; sheds, Hume Street, Orford Street; garage, Spring Drive, demolition of shed , new shed and carport, Gray Street; Alterations/additions, Bow Street, open carport, Adams Street; patio, Church Street.
Alterations and additions to a dwelling at Daysdale, a hay shed in Mahonga Road Urana, a shed extension in Buller Road Oaklands and a shed at Howlong in Larmer Street were also given the green light.
Eleven development applications were approved by council, including a dwelling at Howlong in Jude Street and two town houses in Russell Street Howlong.
“Again the number of development consents issued for the past month is significantly higher than recent patterns, and shows an increased level of development, with the Federal Government $25,000 building incentives making a positive difference to development activity,” Ms Appleyard said.
