“We want to make it a significant precinct for the whole town essentially…a community facility.”

This message, about Corowa’s John Foord Oval and immediate surrounds, was conveyed to Member for Albury Justin Clancy on Monday, April 19 by Corowa Football Netball Club President Stuart Lingham.
Knowing Mr Clancy was to be at the official opening of Corowa’s $10.2 million Aquatic Centre on the Monday, Mr Lingham invited the Member for Albury to the oval to be aware of a major redevelopment.
The redevelopment is part of the proposed $35 million redevelopment of Corowa Foreshore and surrounds including all sporting clubs and Morris Park. A second football oval beside the existing John Foord Oval, on private land closer to Sanger Street is one of the many proposed developments.
But many other changes are expected to be recommended by users of the John Foord Oval and surrounds.
A survey continues to be conducted by Corowa architecture and design business, Regional Design Service, who are very keen to be involved in any future redevelopment.
“Our survey involves all user groups to find out what they would like to see at the John Foord Oval complex and surrounds,” Mr Lingham said.
“We’d like to think by the end of this month we’ll have all the replies.”
The proposed $35 million cost tag will be subject to Federation Council and sporting clubs/users of the precinct being successful in attracting NSW State Government grants.
“The Stronger Country Communities grants are coming out again,” Mr Clancy said. “Federation Council is very active when it comes to seeking grant funding and I’m sure will again be seeking grants such as this project.
“Country football and netball is such a big part of the community and it’s important clubs keep improving facilities for the next generation.”
Upgrading the clubrooms, and probably going upstairs, new netball facilities including changerooms and driveways into the ground are expected to be forthcoming suggestions.
But it’s up to user groups to complete their surveys as quickly as possible in order for the club and Regional Design Service to complete their specific redevelopment proposal.
