The winners this week were Mick Reilly and “Captain” Kurt Bleckwehl with 2 wins and +15.
Runners up were Wayne Lowrie and Darryl Lowe (a visitor from Port Arlington with 2 wins and +14.) Jackpot went off this week to Col Withers and Narelle Lowe, (the way Col and Vicki are winning the prize money every week they are going to bypass buying cattle and get a new tractor instead).
Lucky numbers were collected by Garry Presnell and Jan Hermassoo.
Friday had another capacity field of 56 players (next week they are going to 60 players).
Winners this week were Ian Morffew and Les Balfour, runners up were Norm Winderbank and Barb Tennyson.
The first consolation prize went to Ray Brown and Les Spencer and the second consolation prize went to Rhonda and Ray Irvine.
Saturday was the first practice match against Cobram at home and 45 players attended. With so many pennant players still not available the selectors trialed a few ideas with their rink selections. Next week the club are having an intraclub game so make sure your name is on the sheet by 4pm Thursday; the selectors will then pick the rinks.
Also, there is a sheet up for the midweek practice matches. It looks like the Weekend pennant season is due to start on November 13 and Midweek on the 16th so the more practice games you can get under your belt the better you will be prepared for the real games.
On Thursday, November 4, “Morff “and his team of hard workers will be putting on a free BBQ.
This is just a small get together to introduce the new bowlers and have a talk about the upcoming season, this will take place after practice about 5pm.
There will be a list up for catering numbers.
Don’t forget on Sunday, October 31 the club are having the AGM followed be a fun game of bowls for the opening of the fantastic greens.
After bowls there will be some nibbles so, please put your name up on that list.
ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
Another great week of bowls and enjoying each-others company. It’s great to be getting back to ‘some’ normality and getting rid of those masks outside was a good step in the right direction.
Tuesday, October 19 – Social Bowls
Once again a good turn-out for the weekly Social Bowls session with some 30 odd bowlers on the green.
It was great to give the lower green a much needed massage and again the green proved very true which is due to the great work done by Greens Keeper Gary Parker.
Men’s Singles Club Championship Round 2
The make-up game was played between Trevor Loe and Malcolm Miller at the completion of the Social Bowls game. Malcolm was putting in some very good bowls however Trevor pulled away early and was never headed.
Eventual winner and progressing to the third round Trevor 25 defeated Malcolm 10.
Congratulations to both bowlers on the manner and spirit in which the game was played.
Thursday, October 21 – Twilight Social Sets Play
At last after many delays, cancellations and postponements, the club were actually able to commence Social Bowls Sets Play twilight game to play for the first time under their new lights.
Prior to the commencement of the game President Graeme Arnold thanked the ClubMulwala Directors/Management and in particular the CEO Mr Alan Rowe for their forward thinking and generous gesture in providing these amenities which will enhance the outdoor bowling facility greatly.
It is expected that the club will play their first game of Pennant under lights this season.
The first game is a mini tournament of Social Bowls between club members only (due to the current COVID restrictions) over a three-week period. Weekly prizes are awarded, and points accumulated with major prizes being awarded at the end of the games.
For this social activity it was decided to play 3 x sets of five games per week of Nominated Pairs playing the 2-4-2 combination. A popular choice of game with the bowlers.
Winner for week one were Barry Pitt and Anita Albert over two new bowlers Wade and Nicole McPherson. As Barry stated the score-line of 12-0 was not an accurate indication of how the game went and he praised Wade and Nicole for their tenacity and never give up attitude during their game.
They are both new bowlers and will be a great asset to the club in the future. They have the bug.
Leaderboard for week 1 is – Barry Pit and Anita Albert (12 points), Mick Millsom and Loris Lochhead (10 points +19), Graeme Arnold and Gary Parker (10 points +15), Mark Smith and Jodi Powell 10 points + 13), Daryl Dighton and Peter Humphreys (8 points), Jan Martin and Faye Cook (6 points + 15), Jan Morton and Joan Connor (6 points +14), Kay Smith and Cliff Morton (4 points), Kerry Merrett and Stephen McPhee (2 points +13), Barry Martin and Ray Tovey (2 points + 11), Daryl Richmond and Betty Richmond ( 2 points +6) and Wade McPherson and Nicole McPherson (0 points +2)

Saturday, October 23 - Pennant practice match against Berrigan Bowling Club
A late organised practice match against Berrigan Bowling Club was played on Saturday. Berrigan came with 24 players thanks to Kelly Milich who was the contact with the ClubMulwala club selectors and had a lot to do with the game getting off the ground.
A very competitive match ensured with the scores coming out about even in the end.
The match was played in good spirits and great camaraderie between both clubs who enjoyed each other’s company.
Both enjoyed a barbeque after the match and celebrated being able to play the game we all love post COVID.
The match was excellent practice for both clubs and both Presidents Graeme and Garry are keen to ensure that this becomes an annual event.
Sunday, October 24 – Men’s Club Championship Round 3
The ladies were unable to play this weekend due to work commitments.
Two games were scheduled for the men however, due to a misunderstanding a walkover was given to Graeme Arnold who will now play in the final in two weeks’ time.
The other game was played with Mick Millsom 25 defeating Peter Humphreys 12.
A great game played hard by both contestants with multiple skills on display. Mick will now play Graeme Arnold in the final.
