Fraser’s -14 in Vic Open

By Robert Muir

It was enthralling golf and star Corowa international golfer Marcus Fraser was right in it to snatch the Victorian Open Championship title at 13th Beach Barwon Heads last Sunday.

With four sub-par rounds, including a brilliant seven-under-par second round 65, the 41-year-old finished tied for third with Robin Sciot-Siegrist of France and NSW’s Travis Smyth with a 14-under-par total of 274.

Fraser was in outright second position for much of the final round, in the tricky windy conditions. But New Zealander Ryan Fox stormed home with a 64 to end up on -17 and two strokes from the winner, 21-year-old West Australian Min Woo Lee on -19.

Big crowds followed both the men’s and women’s Vic Opens at the 36-hole 13th Beach courses. Fraser’s four rounds were 70, 65, 69 and 70 on the Par 72 course.
