The talented 18-year-old bowler, recently moved to Canberra to study physiotherapy at the University of Canberra, with plans to make the ACT Meteors transition squad.
“The transition squad is a pathway into the senior ACT Meteors squad. Hopefully I can train with them through the off-season and into the 2020/21 season,” Gabby said.
The past 12 months has been nothing short of eventful for Gabby. On top of completing high school and beginning her studies in Canberra, she was also selected for the U18s ACT/NSW Country team, and selected as a finalist for the Norse Skog Young Achiever of the Year Award.
“Being selected as a finalist for the Norse Skog Young Achiever of the Year Award was really cool as I was amongst some other really great competitive athletes that have done so well in their respective sports.”
For Gabby, her long-term goal is to be playing in the Women’s National Cricket League. Despite her great ambitions, Gabby remains level-headed about her future.
“I’m enjoying university, cricket and the people I’m meeting here in Canberra which has made the move from Corowa a lot easier. I hope to graduate from university and have a job that I will enjoy doing. In terms of cricket, I want to keep playing and even try some coaching.”
Gabby also hopes to inspire a new generation of young female cricketers.
“The pathway for female cricket is much more developed now then it was when I started playing and it’s only going to get better, with women’s cricket, like the WBBL, receiving more attention.
“The amount of new people you meet and the places you can go has been a part of the reason that I love playing cricket.”
