B Grade has a huge chase on their hands if they are to pull off victory against Beechworth in their clash at Ball Park.
With the game starting an hour early and with cloud cover on Saturday, the Roos elected to bowl first but the Roos fielders didn’t come to the party with two catches going down in the first 3 overs.
Greg Burgess got the first breakthrough to have Beechworth 1 for 13, but Beechworth worked hard pushing the score along to 37 before Burgess collected his second.
The score moved along to 74 before Will Chandler got a wicket with a very unlikely delivery and John Schnelle was reward with a wicket for a good spell to have Beechworth 4 for 88.
The clouds cleared and the temperature started to rise as Beechworth moved along to 4 for 113 off 38 overs at the afternoon tea break.
Burgess got an important wicket in the 4th over after the break to have Beechworth 5 for 121.
Cal Bettington bowled a great spell in the hot weather, collecting three wickets as the Roos had Beechworth 8 for 164 with 10 overs to be bowled.
But Beechworth batted sensibly as they added 45 for the 9th wicket before Chandler collected his 2nd wicket and Burgess was rewarded with the last wicket in the last over as Beechworth were bowled out for 217.
Burgess was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 54 off 18.4 overs as well as four chances put down off his bowling, while Bettington bowled 16 straight overs to take 3 for 42 in the heat.
All the Roos batters will need to fire to chase down the total this Saturday.
A Grade had the bye, while C Grade and the two Under 16s sides didn’t play due to the hot weather on Saturday.
