Whose legs are these? Barefoot bowls - join in at Corowa Services every Friday from December 29

Corowa Services Bowling Club

As rain caused the cancellation of Saturday Pennant across the Ovens and Murray region, Midweek Pennant took centre stage last week.

The A1’s had a very respectable win over YMGCR 2, with 65-42 shots.

Two winning rinks skipped by Suzi Swift and Lorraine Carmody respectably, Peter Browne’s rink just falling short with one shot down.

A1’s continue to languish in 8th position, but are just three points shy of moving off last place.

A massive effort as they head into the second half of the season might see them avoid the risk of relegation.

The B2’s scraped in to win 72-70, at home to Mitta Valley.

It was Peter Edwards’ rink that carried the day, with a 14 shot win.

Comprising Peter, Wendy Briggs, Janet Davis and Donald MacQueen, they were able to offset the small losses of the other two rinks.

At the time of going to press, B2’s were sitting 8th on the ladder.

Corowa Civic Bowls

Midweek Pennant teams were all at home this week and results show two teams were able to hold on for close wins.

Division 1 played Yarrawonga.

G. Rowe and C. Hendren’s rinks battled hard all game but both went down by four shots 21-55, 28-32 respectively.

J. White’s rink saved the game with a very good 34-18 win.

Good result after a very close game.

Division 3 another very close game played against Myrtleford with Civic able to hold onto a four-shot win after 25 ends.

G. McFarlane’s rink played well to finish 32-16, B. Docherty 24-27 fell short by just three shots after a tight game.

S. Rodway’s rink 16-25 were unable to match their opponents, however a team win on the day was a pleasant result.

Division 4 hosted Swanpool. L. Wilson 13-34 found the opposition too strong on the day.

H. VanSummeren’s rink 23-27 tried all day but were unable to hit the front, however E. Hollingsworth rink 23-13 were the winners on the day, but unfortunately unable to cover the difference and Swanpool had a 15-shot win, well played.

The wet weather this week meant Weekend Pennant was cancelled so the challenge will resume on December 9.

Remember the Christmas Bowls Day on Sunday, December 10 – put your name on the list and come and enjoy the day.

The Corowa RSL Club Championship grand final results, game one the minor singles, what an exciting encounter it was, two bowlers with equal ability but on a great performance for the spectators, sad that you can only have one winner and that was Steve Jones he defeated Evelyn Jones by a small margin.

Game two was the Club Single Championship, again it was a very close contest the two bowlers gave their all and the winner could not be detected until the very last end.

The club singles champion for this year is Peter Dodds by defeating a very gallant Kevin Culhane.
