Skate Park extension tender

Works to extend the renowned Corowa Skatepark are set to occur soon, following the awarding of a $327,560 tender contract to Haley Constructions.

Decided at Federation Council’s monthly meeting on January 28, the extension will improve the usability and appeal of this important asset for young residents by catering for a broader range of ages and skill.

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the project will see the creation of a youth activation area that offers young people an alternative recreation option to traditional sports and encourages social connections.

“The extension will also support community and youth events and attract visitation from throughout the region,” he said.

The project has secured $333,170 through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Major Project Fund and is also being supported through funds raised by the Corowa Skate Park Committee ($16,130).

Mayor Bourke said the concept designs were developed in close consultation with the Skate Park Committee and have been used as a basis to engage expert consultants and progress more detailed planning for the project.

“The need to re-work the design and plan for the extension provided council with the opportunity to consult with our Skate Park Committee and also more broadly, to ensure the very best outcome is achieved,” he said.

“Council would like to take this opportunity to thank our youngest residents who have been involved in the project, as well as the Skate Park Committee, who have helped council to understand the needs and expectations of users, and all who have had involvement, to ensure we can deliver a fantastic new extension design. We look forward to seeing this long awaited project commencing soon.”
