The inclement weather held out until just after the last race and everyone was able to enjoy the festivities, with a jumping castle and face painting for the kids as well as Fashions on the Field for the ladies and kids to take part in.
Fashions on the Field had a touch of royalty with the Dowager Countess of Loudoun, Marg Bunton and Sherry Banberger being the judges. The Lady of the Day was won by Madeline Crawford of Geelong and the Millinery prize went to Rebecca Scott from Cobram. The Girls and Boys Under 17 prizes went to Lily Palmer of Corowa and Caile Duryea of Wahgunyah.
This year’s event marked the third year since the November meeting was changed to Melbourne Cup Eve rather than the same day of the race, a switch that appears to be paying dividends.
Corowa Race Club Secretary Gail Law said, “The club would like to thank its race sponsors Balldale Hotel, who sponsored the Balldale Hotel Kick Off Maiden, Barlens Hire, Billabong Agriculture, Corowa Golf Club, A & A Automotive, Carlton United and Waldren’s Fresh on the River IGA. Fashions on the Field could not have happened without its sponsors also and we would like to thank Tuileries, Shine, Origin Clothing, Gyles Newsagents, Corowa Jewellers, Corowa Computers and Giftwrapt.
“The next race meeting will be on Sunday, December 29. A great way to celebrate with family and friends during the Christmas break.”
