“It was a really terrific presentation,” he told The Free Press. “It was a really good crowd considering all the weather conditions we’ve had over the past month.”
Over 25 floats captured the appreciation of the big crowd along Sanger Street leading into Bangerang Park.
Among the float award winners were St Mary’s Primary School, Corowa Historical Society and Corowa Rutherglen Relay for Life.
The excellent market’s 37 stalls were well patronised by locals and visitors.
Three pipe bands – the Wangaratta Pipe Band, Albury Wodonga Drums and Pipes, and the Albury Scot School Pipe Band – entertained festival goers.
“They were all marvellous and the Scot School band, led by our Youth Council Mayor Dylan Forge, was the main highlight,” the festival president said.
“It was a great performance by them as a lead-up to their Edinburgh Tattoo performance – such a talented young group of musicians.”
Mr Poidevin also praised the ”wonderful 750 people” who attended the Rotary Club of Corowa B & S Ball.
“I also thank all Rotarians and friends of Rotary who helped put the weekend on, and everybody else who participated in the parade and those people who came along to see our milestone Federation Festival,” he said.
“A big thank you also to Federation Council for their in-kind support and assistance. This is a huge weekend and to put on our iconic Federation Festival we need that type of support too, to deliver something the whole town and district can be proud of.”
Corowa’s Federation Festival celebrations commenced last Friday night with the fifth annual Rotary Club of Corowa’s Tim Fischer Oration. A full coverage of the big night will appear in next week’s The Free Press.
At yesterday’s Federation Council monthly meeting, Deputy Mayor Shaun Whitechurch praised the Rotary Club of Corowa.
“Take what Rotary did out and we’d have nothing in Corowa over the weekend,” he said. “There was the Tim Fischer dinner, the B & S Ball, the festival and the market. It’s only a small band of people who organize and run these events.”
Council resolved, unanimously, on the motion of Crs Whitechurch and Bronwyn Thomas, to formally express council’s appreciation of the huge amount of work by the Rotary club.
