A restrictive covenant would be placed on the land at 241 Redlands Road Corowa should the sale proceed, requiring the land revert to council’s name should the club no longer exist at some time in the future.
Since 1998, Corowa Historical Vehicle and Machinery Club has occupied the land and its lease runs out on June 30, 2019. The club does not pay rent but is responsible for paying rates, water and electricity, and maintains the area.
Council received a proposal from the club to purchase the land for $50,000.
“The offer by the club, whilst under-priced at $50,000 could be considered as reasonable given the community benefit involved and in consideration of current arrangements which do not realise any financial benefit to council,” council’s director corporate and community services Kristy Kay said.
Councillors agreed at their monthly meeting on November 20 and resolved, on the motion of Crs Norm Wales and Shaun Whitechurch, that council advertise its intentions over a 28-day period, to sell.
Notification will appear in Federation Council Snippets and on council’s website.
Active in the community since 1996, the club has been involved with the Federation Festival participating in the big street parade, organizing the annual Vintage Tractor Pull and displaying the rural history.
The club would be up for some $2,000 in legal costs should the sale of the land, which has a Valuer General $81,100 assessment, proceed.
