Federation Council’s Deputy Mayor Shaun Whitechurch made the comment as council was about to adopt two documents which had been on exhibition for 28 days: Companion Animals Management Plan and Local Orders Policy – Keeping of Animals and Birds.
No submissions were received from the public during the month-long exhibition period.
Cr Whitechurch had received complaints involving dogs attacking dogs and people, especially at Howlong and emphasized the need for council staff to actively pursue any complaints.
Some years ago, fines were issued against some dog owners in Howlong whose dogs were roaming freely around town.
In adopting the resolutions on February 19, 2019, on the motion of Crs Andrew Kennedy and Fred Longmire, council’s decision includes a review of the policies in four years or as needed.
